A collection of funny, sad, and illuminating stories of people getting lost and finding themselves in the company of strangers. Some of the chapters are a little repetitive, but the last few are very good. Easy to put down and pick up later with no loss in continuity, well worth the money.

This was the perfect read for the world in 2017. A gentle reminder that behind every "these people" and "those people" are good hearted individuals. The intro by the Dalai Lama just sets it perfectly. The collection is dated, with many written before 9/11 so the Middle East stories have a different flavor to them. I've read some in other collections, or in the writers' own volumes, but overall a quick and enjoyable read. Heavy on Africa and the Middle East but I think that was reflective of the time in which they were written - travelers were a novelty there. And I love Belle and Sam -- that one pops up in all the places.

The perfect travel read. These powerful stories will stay with me for a long time. The only weak essay was the one by Dave Eggers, but he admits in it that it was written at the very last minute. You can even check this book out for free on your Kindle if you have Amazon Prime.

I enjoyed this book immensely and so much so that I read it a second time immediately after finishing it the first time. Each travel story was unique in showing the kindness of strangers and left lessons to share with not only the people involved but also the reader.

Most of the stories were the same. Got bored with the book halfway thru and put it down. Probably would have been better if authors had picked one good story and wrote a whole novel around it.

A good book for those who love to travel, and love people. Not at all sappy. Reminded me of adventures, misadventures and close calls in my years of travel and living abroad.

Wasn't exactly what I was looking for. Read almost a year ago, but what I remember, it was examples of folks getting themselves into scary situations only to be saved by caring individuals.

I'm not able to travel right now, so I found these short accounts so lovely, intriguing and nerve-wracking at times. All equally well written. What a fun book!
