Review
"Noor Inayat Khan remains, in the minds and hearts of many, an exemplary figure whose life has been their inspiration." (Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan, Head of Sufi Order founded in 1910 by Hazrat Inayat Khan)"All these stories helped me learn the lessons the Buddha did, and when Iread them, I can't help but hope I will become strong and wise like the Buddha, too. . . . Kids who like books with magical, fairy-take-like elements would enjoy this book, and kids who like stories like Aesop's Fabes should read this." (Olivia Donstov, age 10, writer)

LITERATURE"Noor Inayat Khan remains, in the minds and hearts of many, an exemplary figure whose life has been their inspiration."Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan, Head of Sufi Order founded in 1910 by Hazrat Inayat KhanThese twenty tales have been drawn from famous legends concerning the former lives of the Buddha. Beloved by children and adults alike, they tell of people and animals moved to acts of sacrifice by the noble example of their fellow creatures. The flavor is often suggestive of Aesop, as are the lessons that are so subtly and keenly conveyed. Presented in a simplified narrative, the tales maintain the magical and timeless beauty of their Far Eastern origins. The stories are ideal for reading to children, as they tell of highly dramatic adventures that are resolved by non-violent and compassionate means. Challenging circumstances bring forth courage and the capacity to love, opening the way to solutions against seemingly impossible odds. This book will also be coveted for its exquisite illustrations by the well-known illustrator H. Willebeek Le Mair.

This is a wonderful book, full of little life lesson stories that would be great reads for children. I enjoyed the stories as an adult! the author of the book was actually a female agent for the United Kingdom during WWII who was dropped behind enemy lines to broadcast military codes back to the allies. Her life was extraordinary. She is truly an unsung hero worth knowing about!
Lovely stories! We homeschool and used these as part of our morning reading/circle.
Purchased this as a gift for a Christmas gift after seeing the moving of author’s life and role during WWII. The stories are from her heart and still a pleasure to read.
I'm a middle-aged adult Buddhist. I bought the book in case I had children visitors. I started to read the stories, and found them so interesting I had a hard time putting it down. Uplifting, inspiring, and cautions against wrong-doing.
Noor was one of millions who went to war against tyranny in the second world war. Her decision to get involved is one that many chose. Her path once she was into the fight is one that is truly inspirational. She volunteered for the most dangerous, unforgiving duty as an SOE agent. She and eleven other women paid the ultimate sacrifice for the free world as agents for the SOE. Her stories she has written are quite a paradox when you consider she was non violent but went to war anyway. She was one of millions of "civilian soldiers" who dropped what they were doing to do job that had to be done. Her stories connect with her biographies as she used them to help herself justify her need to help. She is truly a high ranking member of the Greatest Generation.
A little over the top in linguistics but overall, my son enjoys the stories. Maybe when he is a teenager, he will enjoy them more. This is our second book of Buddhist takes to read together. He is recently 7.
This is a wonderful book of children's tales that are unusual, different from the normal stories.
They're a collection of children's stories intended to introduce the concept of Buddha and some of his many reincarnations. Very neat read even as an adult.
