This definitely has a lot of the hymns that my relatively-conservative church sings, which is mainly what I was looking for. The accompaniment is not that difficult to follow if you have been playing piano for a couple of years, but pretty quickly you will see that the binding is a bit tough to work with; it would be much better as a spiral bound book.
Great book of hymns. I really liked the arrangements, although some of them were a little difficult to play. I am an early intermediate piano player, and I found the hymns both easy and challenging. The book was a little difficult to stay open, and I had to clip the sides, but most of the songs were on two pages, so turning the page was not necessary very often.
On the positive side, this book provides a good list of hymns for guitar application. The majority of the songs are familiar to any congregation that still is hymn-based rather than praise chorus oriented. Some of the hymns, however, are almost unusable for the musicians due to the format---one song in particular that we were considering stretched over five pages. The Hymn Book, published by Elderly Instruments is vastly superior when it comes to being user friendly, although its selection isn't as large as The Big Book. Overall, I would recommend the book. Most guitar oriented books for worship have a ton of praise choruses with a few token hymns. The Big Book gives you a lot of selections and options that most of the others don't
It's a nice book but a little too large and doesn't have the old hymns I expected it to contain. I didn't expect to find Catholic hymns which I already have. big wanted the Protestant church hymns that are a rich part of the American fabric. It doesn't contain what I expected but I can't give it a low rating because it's disappointing to me.
This hymn sheet music book is quite good for an intermediate / advanced beginner. It contains almost every "old" standard hymn used by the majority of protestant / evangelical churches.I deducted a star only because it's spine-bound, not spiral-bound. That makes it difficult to use on a piano's music stand (having to put other books on either side to hold the pages). I have other books with the spiral binding and it makes a huge difference.
I love that this book has the sheet music for piano and the chords for guitar up above. The lyrics are right there, too. It makes it for easy playing. I also like that the music is usually only on two pages. I don't like turning the page.We use this book at church for the band.
As a piano player, I was looking for more interesting arrangements. I have several hymnals and found these arrangements to be similar or inferior. Plus,there is less of a selection here than in most hymnals. However, if you do not have a hymnal, and are at an early intermediate skill level this book would be very useful. As for the usefulness for vocals and guitar, I couldn't say.
I'm sure this is great for a beginner, but to basic and easy for what I needed, they should show an example piece in the pictures
